So, there I was. Due to the copious amounts of ice in my jersey pockets and the large frozen, ice filled sock down my back I was staying fairly cool. The body and legs are feeling great.
Kurt Holzer got off on the front which caused the pace to really slow down because we let him hang out there and no one really wanted to do the work to bring him back. After a while I decided to put in a hard effort to cut he cap and then force others to start working. It worked and before long we had Kurt back with us. Big props to him for getting away.
With four laps to go I am feeling like victory could/should be mine. Famous last thoughts! Heading into turn #1 things got bunched up a bit (up to this point the race had been very safe). As we head into the turn a Georges Cycle rider came over my front wheel with his rear wheel. At this point I was near the front so as I begin sliding over the pavement I realize, "there are a whole lot of people who are going to be coming over the top of me". I felt one person hit me and go over the top, then I felt another hit me. And then, in the blink of an eye my race was over:(
Damage report: all things considered not to bad. The guy who broke his front fork off was a lot worse off. I feel really bad for him!! I have some road rash and some pretty good chunks out of my knuckles, my bike hardly had any damage at all as my right shoe and body took most of the damage. My shorts came a little unstitched and have some abrasions, but that is it. I felt very, very lucky that the damage was so minor. The worst part besides my race being messed up is I can't swim for a little bit.
Anyways, that in a nut shell was my event, great job to everyone who participated and a big thanks for all of you cheering us on!!

Which George's Guy
Wish I knew Idaho racers by name, because now you have me wondering which George's guy wrecked you and whether it was the same one that nearly wrecked the Masters B field at state crit on Sunday....Tallish guy on a Tarmac?
Hey "Rides a fish"!
Mark, long time no see. Did you come up for the weekend?
George's rider
The rider who tangled with Rob was Frank Benzing, a traditionally strong and safe rider. He has not ever been accused of being tall, however. I pored over my camera footage for some time to track and then identify his bib number. I was just a rider back when it happened, but it was so fast!
Holzer was in between the impact and the camera so it is hard to see how it went down,...but we were passing somewhat of a grassy knoll,... hmmmm....
