CX Nationals Registration

In case you did not see this post on idahocyclocross.com I thought I would post it on our site as well.

Calling all CXers - Cross National Championship registration opens on 10/01/09 at 11:59 pm EST. It is posted on sportsbaseonline at http://www.sportsbaseonline.com/events/index.xhtml?categoryId=13875

Last week I was reading on the Cross Crusade forum and it mentioned that the fields usually fill up in the first couple of hours. Since this is the first time signing up for a National race for most of us, it looks like people should decide pretty quick if they are going or not and be prepared to register right when it opens.

I have been looking into vaction homes in Bend to rent and have found a few good options. After I have a confirmed spot for Nats I will be booking a place to stay. If you are interested in sharing a house and costs (which look to be cheaper and nicer than a hotel) please let me know. Most seem to sleep between 6-9 people and have hot tubs. Prices range from $120-180 a night depending on seasonal rates.

I plan to sign up...

just to say I raced nationals!

I like the house idea -- I'm in, and you know I'll sleep anywhere.

Nationals and Housing

I would like to sign up as well, or even just go to watch if I miss the cut-off. I am behind on fitness (as always) as I seem to want to ride my bike more for fun than stress out that I haven't trained enough, but going to attempt to sign-up on Thursday and would be in for sharing the housing rental. That sounds like a lot better deal than $100 a night for one hotel room.

Yeah...

I'd like to go as well and the house option sounds very cool to me. I've fallen WAY behind where I was and also where I thought I'd be fitness-wise, so hopefully I can get ramping from here and at least have fun. I'll look into signing up as well.

So are you guys planning to sign up for the B races or Masters? Or both? I found the race schedule here: http://www.visitbend.com/CEDocuments/Downloads_GetFile.aspx?id=357790&fd...

Good Idea

I originaly had planned on signing up for the Masters because that is the "National" race. I had not even thought about signing up for both. I will probably not be able to leave until that thursday so I will only be able to do the masters race. If someone could do both that would be fun to get in more racing. I did see that there is a Masters 30-39 and 35-39.
I have also called and left a message to get clarification on racing age. For example, I am 39, in cross do I register in the 30-39 class or the 40-44? Harris thought it might be what age you are in the next year, which might make sense since Worlds is in January. This of course only effects those on the bubble, but I will post what I find out.

My thoughts...

Well, they're all "nationals" races... just different categories, right? :)

I'm pretty sure the 30-39 is a typo and should be 30-34 and the other 35-39 as listed.

Racing age is just racing age from everything I've ever heard... It's marked on our licenses, so whatever's on your license should be the case. If you turn 39 anytime in 2009 then that's your age. I'm 32 today, but will be 33 by the end of the year... so that's my race age. If worlds are in January then they would be run on NEXT year's license anyway since our current one's expire on 12/31/09.

I'm not sure if I could be there by Thurs morning either... but could try harder if others were there. Also, if you show up for Thurs you can watch the REAL masters race. I'm thinking that 70+ one... how tough are those dudes?!

Word from USA Cycling

I received a voivemail from a Tom Mahoney from USA cycling who said that if I would be 40 prior to Dec. 31 2010 then that is my racing age.
I could be wrong but I think all of the "B" level races are not for a Nationals Jersey (not that it matters in any way to me).

As of now I plan on leaving Thursday afternoon and coming home Sunday after the Elite race.

As for the 70+ cat. That is the race I want to see. Those are the guys that inspire me. In fact, in moments of insanity I sometimes think that if I just keep living and riding long enough I may someday be a National Champ simply through attrition:)

EDIT: I just spoke with Tom directly who is the Member Services Coordinator--Midwest Region and he confirmed that I will race in the 40-44 age group, so if this applies to you now you know. He also confirmed that the "B" level races are not for the "National Championship" (again, not that it really matters) at least until we are 70+:)

wow

So that age stuff is very surprising to me. I think that a lot of people would be racing in the wrong cat if they're on the edge then as that's a whole 2 years older for people with birthday's late in the year. Seems crazy, but maybe you've got a better chance racing that cat anyway?

Not that I'd have a chance... but I promise if I won the B cat I would declare myself National B Champ in my agegroup! :) heh

Also, looks like the signup has been bumped out a couple weeks as it's now listed as 10/15/09 11:59 PM EST. and has a little blurb "USA Cycling has not set a opening date for Cross Nationals at this time. Please check back for more details. The SBO Support Team"

rob deeble's picture

good to know

First ,you better believe if I won I would also be telling anyone who would listen that I was a National Champ as well:)
Man, I am bummed. I was so excited to get registered. Well, the anticipation builds for two more weeks.

Some people have asked how much the Nationals race costs. It is $50.

Fence Sitter

Looks like the registration was bumped back to 10/15. I'm going to register to be sure I get a spot and am 75% in. I'm in for the house idea too.
