A team is five riders or more on any route combination. This is a way of getting a discount on a fun group activity. Each team member receives a $5 discount. Pick a Team Captain and sign up with family members, neighbors, or co-workers. Dress your team in t-shirts or company apparel so we can recognize your group. Challenge other teams to meet or beat the number of riders in your group. The Cycle for Independence is an opportunity to do something wonderful with and for the blind of your area.

Organized by the Treasure Valley Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Idaho, the Cycle for Independence raises funds to:

Improve education of blind children

Help seniors adjust to blindness

Improve technology for the bind

Seek better public transit

Provide information about blindness
We are recruiting riders and volunteers. Lunch will be provided at the end of the ride to all riders and volunteers. All riders welcome. Bring the whole family. We look forward to lots of tandems.

Fun

Wow, you're starting early this year Ladd! This was a great ride last year, but I won't be able to make it this round. Will be out of town that weekend. :(

ladd's picture

Oh, it's never too early!

Wanted to get it on the calendar...

Team Sign-up

Has anyone started the team sign-up thing and how do we go about it, who should I send my $30.00 to, all that kind of stuff.

rob deeble's picture

J.J. and Rob are in

I just spoke with J.J. and she and I would be up for the metric Century. Who do I need to pay as I would not be a good leader for this event?

ladd's picture

Unless someone else is dying to do it...

I was planning to be team captain again. I think for this event, we don't even need to hand in all of the entries together, so we just need to all sign up for the same team.

I was going to fill out the PDF and post it here, so it would be easier for people who want to mail in the form. I should have that up in a few days. (Dan has the full Acrobat and can modify the pdf)

For those who want to do the on-line sign up, go here:
http://www.tvcblindidaho.org/2009_registration_form.htm

At the bottom, fill in the boxes this way:
Team Name: Reel Theatre
# in team: 15 (that's just a guess, but good enough for now)
Team Captain: Ladd Williamson
phone #: 695-6539

Eric, can you start a page like Bob LeBow last year that you regularly update with who's riding and which length?

Thanks,
ladd

Ladd's in charge

Sounds awesome... get it rocking ladd. Also, as far as updates, just edit your first post and add a little section up top that includes that. I'll link it to the front page now so more people see it.

jme's picture

ladd

Nate will be riding the metric, Sandy A. Cody A. Mindi R. and myself will be doing the 25.

jme's picture

Joeli

Are you going this ride?

I'm in

I'm in for the 25 I guess. Wasn't there a 35 last year? I'd like to more than the 25 but the century seems like a lot.

Joeli's picture

Hey

I can do the 25 mile one with ya'll.

ladd's picture

Just signed up --

This is a reminder for slackers like me who haven't signed up yet...

I just signed up Jenny for the 25, and me for the metric. It was a snap -- online, payed with paypal, easy as pie. Has anybody had a problem signing up?

Last year we were the 2nd largest team overall. We need to shake the trees a bit and see if we can discover any more Team Reel riders!

better late than never..

Okay Bob and I still haven't signed up but I plan on doing it tomorrow. Michele still might be a sign on as well.

Cycle for Independence Start Time

7:00 AM? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

ladd's picture

metric at 7:00?

Good point -- I can't find anything either! I think last year the metric started at 7:00. I emailed them to get the start times, and will post here when I get an answer.

Subject: Re: cycle for independence ride times?

Ladd, the metric Century ride begins at 8:00 a.m.; 25-mile at 9:00 a.m.; ten-mile at 9:30 a.m. People need to check in ahead of time to get your numbers, and we need to know who is riding. We have streamlined that process, but we recommend checking in a half-hour before the ride.

Streamlined

Hopefully it's a lot faster then last year. The line for "pre-registered" was 10x as long last year and there were people behind me in line that missed the official start because they were still waiting. Maybe plan on more then 30mins for good measure.

Signed up

I have signed up so I am committed.

ladd's picture

See y'all there!

I'm headed up to the father/son's campout (just for the s'mores) and will get back tonight, so that I'm ready to ride tomorrow with the coolest club -- team reel!

eric's picture

How was it?

So how was the ride? Did we win the biggest team competition this year?

Brad's picture

THE ride

I for one thought it was great, didn't eat breakfast (bannana) but felt good the first hour, my current long ride of the year, then started to bonk and felt not so energetic. Luckily Charise was there to pull me back into town :P

Not sure about the team competition though, we had a fair number of Team Reel riders but not sure exactly how many.

Ladd,

You going to post stuff on the other ride coming up next month?

ladd's picture

I had a great ride also

Lots of fun. I forgot to check out the team competition this year, sorry about that.

As for Bob LeBow, check out the thread on that: http://treasurevalleycycling.com/node/340

The main points are that this year you sign up on line and need the following:

Team Name: Reel Theatre
Code: 4610

We have until May 31 to sign up with the team and get the discount. I'll start bugging folks again about that one soon...
