I've just got to say - I love the new Strava widget on the web site. I find it really motivating to see that folks from the club are out riding, and it makes it easy to what folks are up to. I heard about Strava a year ago from Matt, but it didn't sound like anything I'd like (making rides into competitions, etc.) But now that I've tried it, I just think it's fun.
I saw Kerry Elder last night and asked her why she wasn't on Strava, but she had some excuse about not having a GPS or smart phone... :) (Jenny has a nice phone, but she doesn't seem to want to try it!)
Rides
Yeah, it is cool little widget, even though it doesn't fit into our bars very well. :) I figured we may get more takers if I threw it up there.
I saw the ride total at 29 last Sunday... Think we'll beat it this week?
Wow
Wow, 37 rides this week.
sounds crazy
but it motivates me to see that folks are out riding!
55
Did anybody notice that we had 55 logged rides for Team Reel last week? That's impressive!
I wonder what the miles and time came out to...
We had several folks on the EHB loop, so that was a great "sprint to the finish"! Yup, I agree, that's way cool.
Just Saw that (Sad)
How do I get my Strava stuff to show up on the site. I log into strava and can see everyone but not when I click on the Widget.
Just join the "Team Reel" club
looks like you got it now Steve
It's a Lot Like Meth?
Eric put me onto Strava a couple years ago, and it's been awful. I can't go out for just an easy ride anymore... Just this AM I was thinking Eric and I would go out for a moderate-paced ride, but it's impossible to spin easy knowing you're riding a Strava segment and are being measured against the rest of the world!! My ego just won't let me do that.
True
One second Matt's saying "I'm just going to hang on your wheel this time". No joke, two seconds later he flies by me at full throttle. Come to find out at the top that he'd felt wiff of tail wind for a moment right then also and couldn't resist a possible good time on the segment, so he had no choice really. You can't leave opportunities or even possible opportunities like that hanging!
Strava Madness
Sounds like it could be fun and at the same time, very counterproductive to good training. If you are always pushing it, well that doesn't work very well in the racing world. Can you turn it off and on so its only working on some rides?
Sure
Just don't upload the ride where you lollygag is all. But what fun is that? :)
Haha
I wondered when that comment would come along. Only 6 rides that I see this week you guys are slacking ;).
Comon
Comon Brad... when you going to join?? Have you ridden your bike yet this year? ;) heheh
Where have I been?
Why doesn't anyone tell me anything? I had never heard of this until this thread. Man - you guys are so much more technologically advanced than me. And more dedicated for sure.
But had I known, I could have added some good rides, miles, and times for this week. I've put a lot of time in on the bike. Just registered and downloaded the ap. No more excuses I guess.
garmin?
If you happen to have a Garmin you can upload everything saved on it in one fell swoop too. I think my garmin has about 2years of data saved, so it works really slick for that.
Cycling Meth
I have totally been stressing about getting my rides in, I need 200 miles this week to keep my Strava average up. So tomorrow, I am going to climb Bogus as part of my commute to make up for the days I was out of town. It's wonderfully horrible.
I hate Strava
It shows how many mere seconds I should have pushed "that much harder" when at the time it seemed "that much harder!" When I get a Garmin, there will only be more hate!
The hate
Darth Haskell :"You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Strava weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant."
Tom: No.
Darth Haskell: It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. You, like your father, are now mine.
Tom: Nooooooooo.
The Emperor: Good. Use your aggressive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you.
Eagle Rd JUMP
OK, this is one my fav tiny segments. Mostly because long segments require actual fitness, and I can pretend I have a shot. :) It seems to actually just be a club competition which makes it even better. Anyway, Ladd threw down today and pried KOM from Matt. Who's up next?! This could get interesting.
already 12 rides for 300 miles, and it's only Tuesday!
Maybe this was already happening, but I think it's really fun to see that folks are out riding. Now if we could only get Rob and a few others on board...
Yeah, that's a great section and it's cool that the club is throwing down some good times. I was hoping to keep it on the DL to try and keep the crown for a little while, but your nice embedded graphic blew that idea! Oh well, when I lose my first and only KOM, I only hope it is to a fellow REEL member!
I'm ranked 18th! Lame. Now
I'm ranked 18th! Lame. Now I have to brave Eagle Rd at rush hour just to try and make on the board.
38.2 MPH?
So Matt Woodruff took my only KOM by busting up Eagle Rd going 38.2 MPH? He must be that guy who paced Lance to all those TdF victories!!! ;)
38.2
Yeah, looks like he left the GPS running in the car... you can see it easily on his ride data. I sent a message asking him to crop the bogus data off. It's pretty easy to crop the ride down right on strava's webpage for this exact problem.
But Dan's right... looks like M1 stole your title in the mean time Ladd :)
M1 snuck in there!
38.2 is bogus! But Matt McKinlay snuck in ahead of you with 27.2 average. This doesn't motivate me to sign up for STRAVA. I'll never make it on the leaderboard. Unless it's a pure downhill stretch!
My money is all on Dan going down!!!
I rememebr last year Dan riding away from four of us working together heading from Hill Top down to Lucky Peak. Not only were we not close to catching him, he was pulling away fast!
Eagle Rd Jump
This morning's ERJ was just survival with no 'jump' left in my legs. Rode from home, to Hidden Springs, to Bogus Upper lot, back to Hidden Springs (one flat tire,) then home. That last little Eagle Rd. jump was just an annoyance to get me back home, and the time shows it.
Eagle Rd Jump Mistake
So I had a very wet, cold ride this morning which motivated me to push up Eagle Rd much harder than I normally like to. I thought for sure I had a PR, and maybe a shot at a top 10. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the section actually ends right before the light. I made the mistake of getting over for the turn lane and sitting behind a few cars for about a minute.
So fair warning - if you are playing the Strava game, you've got to push all the way to the light!!
exactly
It's hard to get it dialed "exactly" since strava's not really designed for these tiny segments, but I'm the one that set it up. I started it at the last side road passed on the right (oakhampton) and finished it right before the stoplight turn lanes, aiming for the turn-in to the stores on the left. So if you go all the way to the light you would definitely get it covered.
Makes Sense
That makes sence why I cant get up in the ranks. Ok I guess I might be a little slower. I thought this whole time that it started from the stop light at the bottom. Hopefully I can get some better results on the next try. Thanks for clearing it all up. The race is on.
Records?
What are the top miles, rides, feet per week? Do you have access to those?
